GEA FlatPlate To Open New Manufacturing Site

York, PA – (2/5/07) – International GEA Group has made a multi-million dollar investment to build a local plant for brazed plate heat exchangers.  GEA Group AG – one of the world’s market leaders in technology and stock listed on German’s M-DAX – announced a new manufacturing and administration facility here in York with the merger of GEA FlatPlate, Inc. and GEA WTT, Inc. of Bohemia, NY.  A new product range that will provide one-stop shopping for the world’s most advanced brazed plate heat exchangers. The official launch was announced at the recent AHR Expo in Dallas, TX, on 1/29.

Merger
The two companies have merged to form GEA FlatPlate, strengthening its number one position in this market.  The move utilizes the company’s structure and takes full advantage of the joint expertise between both organizations.  As a global member of GEA Group AG, the company already benefits from worldwide manufacturing synergies for industrial equipment and systems. This merger concentrates the group’s expertise in brazed plate heat exchanger technology under one roof for heightened operational efficiency.

New Production & Administration Facility
Coinciding with the merger are plans to open a new manufacturing facility in York which will bring all manufacturing and administrative processes of GEA FlatPlate and GEA WTT together.  The new factory will provide production, sales and application support for the company’s range of high-performance heat exchangers for use in the refrigeration, heating and industrial processes.  Production will begin in May with total employment predicted to rise from 60 to more than 150.

New Product Range
The restructured company focus also brings about development of a new product line – the GB (GEA Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers).  GB features include a newly designed corrugation pattern on heat exchanger plates designed to optimize the flow of media around inlet and outlet ports.  This new pattern creates more turbulence and has the ability to transfer heat more efficiently.  The GB’s high efficiency is likely to open greater  applications throughout the heat exchanger industry, particularly in the HVAC sector.

Kirby Lindtveit, Senior Vice President Sales of GEA PHE Systems North America, is enthusiastic about all three developments.  “With full production in the US, this product expansion will help us meet the high demand for our products and improve customer lead times,” he explained.  “We are excited about the future and delighted with the support that our customers, who will benefit tremendously from GEA FlatPlate Systems in America, have shown.”
